Agent Provokateur, 2026
Generative multi-agent installation, custom software, various screens, projector, sound, camera, sensors
ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe

Agent Provokateur is an experimental installation in which specialized AI systems work together to perform creative tasks such as research, the generation of images and sounds, as well as directing and compositional decisions. The installation generates visual and acoustic presentations in continuous cycles that are not predetermined but are constantly recreated through the interaction of individual AI agents.

At the heart of the work lies the question of authorship and artistic agency. Who “creates” a work when machines make decisions independently? Agent Provokateur explores how far such autonomous AI systems can operate in an artistic context, while also revealing their limitations.

The audience is part of the installation: cameras and sensors capture the people present and integrate their movements and data into the ongoing processes. In this way, Agent Provokateur “provokes” on two levels: through the experimental exploration of the creative possibilities of autonomous AI agents, and by involving us without being asked.
